Hurricane Hunters : On May 4, 2005, a Hurricane Hunter aircraft visited Martin State Airport in Maryland. The Hurricane Hunters fly directly through hurricanes, right into the eye, to gather data for the forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. 

This airplane is a Lockheed WP3D Orion belonging to NOAA. We had a tour of the aircraft while the specialists who fly it explained each station to us. A navigator was manning the cockpit, and told us some fascinating stories!

The Blizzard of '03 : On February  15-18, 2003 -- President's Day weekend -- it snowed. And snowed. And SNOWED!  The storm system broke records here in Maryland, dropping 28.2 inches of white stuff on us between Friday night and Tuesday morning.
